The Joy of Missing Out is a highly praised book by Canadian author Christina Crook that reveals how the keys to our joy come from intentional connections and presence, not from our smartphones.

Bring door-to-door delivery to your community

In ‪#JOMO‬ I write about the importance of connection to our physical community and the 'good burdens' of walking and connecting face-to-face. In that spirit, I recently offered my local community a special one day door-to-door service, delivering copies of my book on foot/bicycle, in the hopes of meeting more neighbours.

What fun I had! As I followed my little paper map dotted with people who had requested books, I discovered streets and parks I'd never seen before, knocking on the doors of perfect strangers who welcomed me inside. I sipped tea with documentary filmmaker Chanda Chevannes, was invited into novelist Kristen den Hartog's eclectic living room (where she gifted me a copy of her family memoir,) met an African safari business owner and even helped rescue an escaped cat!

Here's what Vicki Ziegler, web manager for the Griffin Trust For Excellence In Poetry + the Scotiabank Giller Prize, said about receiving a door-to-door visit: "What an honour and a delight! Author Christina Crook hand delivered her book to my door today, assisted by her charming helper Madeleine. You've set a new standard for how authors can connect with readers.

I have enjoyed door-to-door delivery so much that I'm launching "200 Books and I'm There."

If your community signs up for 200 books, I will:

  • personally fly to your city/town and deliver them
  • sit down for a one-on-one meet-up with the community champion (YOU!)
  • participate in a public event of your choice
